Fossil Digs
Join us for an Authentic Fossil Dig in the Badlands of Eastern Montana!
Dig Options
Fossil digs for 2026 are now CLOSED for the year. Thank you to everyone who joined us this summer! We will open spots for 2027 in late December or early January, so please check back then to sign up for next summer!
For our regular half-day and full-day dig opportunities, please read the information below BEFORE submitting a dig request. For group digs, please reach out to us via our contact form.
Come experience paleontology firsthand as you learn how to discover, excavate, identify, and interpret fossils from a biblical perspective. See them with your own eyes; hold them in your hands. The Glendive Dinosaur & Fossil Museum hosts half-day digs on a private dig site in the rugged badlands of the Hell Creek Formation. We also offer a combination of a half-day dig and half-day fossil prep. To help you evaluate whether this adventure would suit you, please read our “Dig Checklist”
The Dig and Fossil Prep option offers a taste of paleontology from “find to finish.” Following a half-day dig (8 AM-Noon), and an hour lunch break (eat at a local restaurant or pack a lunch), we will guide you in the techniques of fossil preparation in our lab (at the museum, 1 PM-4 PM). You will be working on what you excavated during your dig and/or helping us work on a fossil in our collection. This is a great hands-on experience for those considering paleontology for their future!
